The Congress of Mexico City is analyzing a point of agreement to urge the Secretariats of Well-being and Social Equality and of the capital's Health to install mobile food units in hospitals, with the aim of supporting families who spend long hours—and even nights—waiting for news of their loved ones. The proposal, driven by legislator Israel Moreno Rivera, pays special attention to the General Hospital Balbuena and the Venustiano Carranza Pediatric Hospital, where it is common to see relatives sleeping on the sidewalks or in improvised shelters. According to the legislator, many of these people come from other states, so they face high expenses for transportation, lodging, and medicines, forcing them to choose between eating or staying close to their patients. 'The right to food should not be a privilege, but a constitutional guarantee that the State must protect, especially in moments of high vulnerability.' Israel Moreno Rivera. Mobile Kitchens: Immediate Support in the Crisis. The initiative contemplates the implementation of mobile kitchens that will operate according to budgetary availability, as an emergency social support measure. The objective is to ensure that families in a hospital waiting situation have access to dignified food without having to move away from their loved ones. The proposal also recalls that in previous administrations, booths and temporary dormitories were installed in hospital areas; however, it warns that there is still a pending debt in terms of food for those who accompany patients in the public health system. Preventing Hospital Waiting from Being Synonymous with Hunger. With this proposal, the Congress of the City of Mexico seeks to promote public policies with a human focus that address not only medical care but also the living conditions of those who accompany patients. The initiative aims to prevent waiting in Mexico City hospitals from translating into basic needs such as lack of food, especially in contexts of social vulnerability.
